Silence settled after the body fell.
It was not the silence of grief, but one of confusion—as though reality itself had taken a step back.
Omar was the first to kneel beside the body, his hands trembling, his eyes locked onto his father’s face.
Omar (in a broken voice):
“…Father?”
Mustafa did not move at first.
He stood still, his chest rising and falling slowly. There was no shock in his eyes only a deep, unsettling suspicion.
Fatima, unlike the others, remained calm.
Far too calm.
She stepped forward with steady strides, looked down at the body, then lifted her gaze toward the group.
Fatima (cold, decisive):
“Do not mourn yet.”
The others stared at her disbelief and anger colliding in their eyes.
Rayan:
“Have you lost your mind?
That’s Mohamed!”
She shook her head slowly.
Fatima:
“No… that was not Mohamed.”
A murmur spread through them, low and uneasy, as if their minds refused to accept what they had just heard.
Omar (exploding):
“You’re lying! We saw him, heard him, and touched him!”
At last, Mustafa moved.
But not toward Omar toward a nearby table.
He picked up a glass of water, stared into it for a brief moment, then spoke quietly, yet clearly:
Mustafa:
“Fatima… now?”
She nodded.
Mustafa approached the body, bent down, and without hesitation poured the water over Mohamed’s face.
At first… nothing.
Then The body convulsed violently.
Its features twisted, as though the skin could no longer contain what lay beneath.
The eyes turned pitch black.
The mouth split open wider than any human mouth should ever open.
The skin began to crack not bleeding, but leaking a thick, living shadow.
A collective scream erupted.
Adam:
“My God… what is that?!”
The transformation completed.
It was no longer Mohamed.
But something else sharp-featured, with dark grey skin, veins pulsing with black corruption.
One of the Creatures of the People of the Last Silence.
Its voice emerged hoarse, layered, as if many throats spoke at once:
The Creature:
“…You are late.”
Sarah staggered back, covering her mouth, tears filling her eyes.
Sarah:
“So… Mohamed…?”
Fatima closed her eyes briefly, then spoke with quiet certainty:
Fatima:
“Mohamed died there… in the tunnel.
This thing wore his voice, his memories even his weakness… just to walk among us.”
All eyes turned into Mustafa.
Rayan:
“And you… you knew?”
Mustafa did not answer immediately.
He stared at the creature, then spoke in a voice both broken and steady:
Mustafa:
“I was afraid I might be wrong… but Mohamed…
He would never have looked at us that way.”
The creature smiled.
Slow. Twisted.
The Creature:
“You did not survive…
You only… went deeper.”
Fatima raised her sword, her gaze unwavering.
Fatima:
“Your role is over.”
Before the creature could react the blade fell.
This time, the body collapsed without movement… without sound… without deception.
Silence returned.
But now… it was not the silence of safety.
Mustafa whispered, as though speaking into the void:
Mustafa:
“If that was not Mohamed… then where is he now?”
And that question…was more dangerous than any answer.
Fatima stepped outside first.
She did not speak.
Her steps were steady, yet the air around her felt unbearably heavy as if warning of something approaching.
The others followed Mustafa, Omar, Sarah, Rayan, Adam.
No one spoke.
It was not the silence of calm… but of a funeral without a body.
Then Fatima stopped.
Standing in the middle of the road… was Jeros.
A faint smile stretched across his face.
Cold. Empty. Lifeless.
Mustafa (stunned):
“Jeros…?”
But Jeros gave him no time.
In a single, fluid motion he lunged forward.
His blade drove straight into Fatima’s chest.
The sound of flesh tearing shattered everything.
Time froze.
Fatima collapsed… her eyes wide… her breath gone.
Sarah (screaming):
“Noooo! Fatima!!”
Omar (dropping beside her):
“No… no… this can’t be happening…”
Mustafa (his voice breaking):
“…It’s over.”
A sharp, cruel laugh cut through the air.
Jeros (mocking):
“Relax.
That wasn’t Fatima either.”
The world seemed to stop again.
Rayan:
“What are you saying?! We saw her! She fought with us!”
Jeros (coldly):
“She was one of them.
A perfect imitation… but in the end, she failed.”
The silence that followed was heavier than before.
Then Thhkk!
The sickening sound of something piercing flesh.
Jeros’ body jerked violently then dropped.
An arrow was buried deep in his neck.
Death was instant.
Adam (horrified):
“Yusuf!!”
Before anyone could react A figure stepped out of the shadows.
Fatima.
Alive.
Exhausted but real.
Her eyes Sharp, her blade stained.
She stood beside the fallen body.
Fatima (calm, deadly):
“And you… were also one of them.”
Jeros Yusuf smiled faintly as life drained from him.
Yusuf:
“It was obvious… wasn’t it?”
Mustafa (bitterly):
“Yes… as clear as the sun.”
Omar let out a short, broken laugh.
Omar:
“Liar…You didn’t even know yourself.”
Yusuf’s smile faded.
The light left his eyes.
Silence.
Now… they all understood.
A single, terrifying truth:
No one knew anymore…
who was human and who was the thing wearing a human face.
Silence fell again.
But this time… it was not an ending.
It was the silence before it collapsed.
Yusuf’s body lay still, his blood spreading slowly across the ground like borders being drawn around a cruel reality.
Mustafa said nothing.
He stood frozen… his soul fracturing piece by piece.
Everything they had lived through… everyone they had trusted…
None of it felt real anymore.
Omar wiped his face with a shaking hand, then let out a hollow laugh.
Omar (whispering):
“Who’s next?”
Sarah tightened her grip on her sword.
Sarah (quiet, sharp):
“From now on… we trust no one.
Not even ourselves.”
Fatima stared into the darkness, as if listening to something beyond their reach.
Then she spoke:
Fatima (calm, final):
“The People of the Last Silence are no longer hiding…The real game has begun.”
From somewhere far away…
A faint laugh echoed.
No one knew if it was real.
But it was enough.
Enough to plant fear in every heart.
The night closed in around Them and left them with one undeniable truth:
In this world…
Survival does not mean you are alive.
It only means…you have not been exposed yet.
